Trick 'r Treat (2007) KILL COUNT is the thirty-first video of The Kill Count.
Overview[]
Opening[]
In the opening scene, Emma and her Halloween-loving husband Henry return home after a celebratory night. Emma blows out their jack-o-lanterns before midnight, which Henry advises is against tradition. While Henry takes a rest in the house, Emma begins tearing down the front lawn decorations, when she is unexpectedly ambushed and murdered by an overlooked assailant. Henry discovers her mutilated corpse on display with the decorations hours later.
Principal[]
Charlie, a plump young vandal who smashes jack-o'-lanterns, is detected stealing candy from a sole bowl left by his school principal, Steven Wilkins. Wilkins proceeds to give a talk to Charlie about the importance of thinking highly of Halloween's many rules and traditions. Charlie initiates to projectile vomit, and Wilkins reveals that he debased the candy with poison. While endeavoring to cover up Charlie's death, he ends up handing out candy to trick-or-treaters, including Sam. Wilkins' work interring Charlie and another child in his backyard is frequently interrupted by his young son Billy and his elderly neighbor, Mr. Kreeg, a scarred recluse whose sole company is his dog. When Wilkins returns indoors, his son jumps out and frightens him. Wilkins tells Billy it is time to carve the jack-o-lantern, and guides him downstairs, hiding a knife behind his back. Wilkins seems to stab Billy offscreen, but Billy is then shown to be ok, and it is revealed that the knife was plunged into the jack-o-lantern they are engraving - Charlie's severed head.
Halloween School Bus Massacre[]
A group of trick-or-treaters – Macy, Sara, Chip, and Schrader – meet Rhonda, a Halloween fanatic, said to be a savant. The group travels to a local flooded quarry where Macy reminisces the urban tale of the "Halloween school bus massacre," which claimed the lives of eight mentally impaired children in a school bus on Halloween. The driver (who would later turn out to be Kreeg) who had been reimbursed by their worn-out parents to dispose of them, tried to transmit the bus over the quarry edge, but one of the children got loose while the driver was inspecting their shackles and risked to steer the bus home, only to send the bus over the edge with both the children AND the driver inside. However, the driver escaped and the children perished. The group offers eight jack-o'-lanterns as a tribute to the dead children. They then pose as zombies to prank Rhonda, who is frightened. While cleaning up the props and getting ready to leave, Macy ends up kicking one of the lanterns into the quarry, causing the undead children to appear from the dark water. The group flees, but Rhonda independently escapes, leaving the others to die at the zombie children's hands. She briefly encounters Sam while departing, and he grins at her for her passion for Halloween.
Surprise Party[]
Laurie, a self-conscious young woman, arrives in town with her sister Danielle and friends Maria and Janet. They pick up dates, hold Laurie, who wants her "first time" to be special, and decline their invitation for a get-together to enjoy the town festival instead. Laurie experiences a hooded serial killer, dressed as a vampire, who attacks her. At a bonfire, Laurie's friends catch a glimpse of the man (now severely injured) falling out of a tree and unmask him, uncovered to be Wilkins. Laurie appears, having agreed to join them for this occasion, and the girls transform into werewolves, consuming Wilkins and their deceased dates. Sam catches a glimpse of the feast.
Sam[]
While Wilkins is burying Charlie's body, Kreeg scares away children to loot their candy, assisted by his dog. Sam busts into his house, adorning it with Halloween memorabilia. Sam, unmasked as a demonic-looking pumpkin-headed kid, onslaughts Kreeg. However, when he goes to stab the old man with a broken lollipop, his makeshift blade is prevented by a chocolate bar that lands on his lap. Satisfied that Kreeg offered him candy, thus fulfilling a ritual of Halloween, Sam takes his departure from the confused Kreeg. Photographs in the fireplace reveal Kreeg to be the bus driver who killed the eight children.
Conclusion[]
Later, Kreeg begins giving out candy to children before staring at the neighborhood. He witnesses Rhonda casually hauling her pumpkin cart along. He sees Billy giving treats to other kids while wearing a costume corresponding to his father's outfit. He watches Laurie, her sister, and her friends going along the road while having a good time. He catches sight of Sam observing Emma and Henry returning home, with him proceeding to exact punishment when Emma blows out the jack-o'-lantern at the beginning of the movie. He returns inside, only to receive a knock on the door. Kreeg opens it, indicating the resurrected children waiting for him. The final shots of the film display Kreeg being dismembered, the children have acquired their vengeance.
