Tara Carpenter is the main deuteragonist in Scream (2022) and Scream VI.
Biography[]
Scream (2022)[]
Tara Carpenter, a high school student, is assaulted by Ghostface when she is at home alone 25 years after Billy Loomis and Stu Macher's murderous rampage in Woodsboro. Tara Carpenter was hospitalized as a result.
Wes Hicks, one of Tara's pals, tells Sam Carpenter, Tara's estranged elder sister, about the assault in Modesto. Sam visits Tara at the hospital with her boyfriend Richie Kirsch, and there they catch up with Tara's friends Wes, Amber Freeman, Chad and Mindy Meeks-Martin, and Liv McKenzie. That evening, Ghostface kills Vince Schneider, Stu's nephew and Liv's ex-boyfriend. Sam informs Tara that she has been having hallucinations of Billy, who she discovered as a teenager to be her biological father, after having a run-in with Ghostface at the hospital. Sam's real parentage caused their parents to split up, which is why Sam and Tara lost contact.
Dewey Riley, who is separated from Gale Weathers, welcomes Sam and Richie. When Gale and Sidney Prescott seek him for assistance in finding the murderer, he calls them to let them know that Ghostface has made a comeback. Dewey joins them to Mindy and Chad's house where he is reunited with Martha, the mother of the twins and sister of Randy Meeks. Mindy surmises that the killer is employing the conventions of a "requel," which is a continuation of a story that heavily draws from the plot of the original while using Tara and her friends as the new generation and using Sam's connection to Billy as a way to weave the legacy characters. The three attacks have all been on individuals who are somehow connected to the original killers. Afterwards, at their residence, Wes and his mother, Sheriff Judy Hicks, are killed by Ghostface. Gale, who has come to town to cover the story, and Dewey get together. Ghostface attacks Tara and Richie in the hospital, but Dewey and Sam, who are just arriving, save them. Sam, Tara, and Richie manage to escape, but Dewey loses his life while attempting to murder Ghostface.
After hearing of Dewey's passing, Sidney arrives in town and meets Gale and Sam at the hospital. Sam refuses Sidney's request to assist in finding the murderer and instead decides to travel with Tara and Richie out of town. As the group arrives at Amber's, Sidney and Gale discover that it was really Stu's old house where the initial Woodsboro slaughter occurred. Chad and Mindy are both attacked by Ghostface at a celebration honoring Wes' legacy. Amber takes out a revolver and shoots Liv in the head as the friends gather, exposing herself as the murderer. Richie is identified as Tara's assailant and Amber's accomplice when Sidney and Gale arrive. Sam is stabbed by Richie, who then drags Sam, Sidney, and Gale into the kitchen where Sidney initially battled Billy and Stu.
Richie and Amber admit they met online and are Slash movie enthusiasts. Dissatisfied with the direction that the most recent Stab 8 had taken, they made the decision to start a new killing spree, bringing back the "original cast" to serve as fresh "source material" for a future "requel" Stab movie and planning to blame Sam for the crime. Richie goes after Tara as Sidney and Gale battle Amber together. The struggle ends with Gale getting free and shooting Amber, who then falls into a stove that has been turned on and is lit on fire. Sam fights Richie and Tara attacks Amber but is unable to do so. Sam sees Billy in yet another hallucination while Richie chases after her, drawing her attention to Amber's misplaced dagger. Sam, proud of her paternal ancestry, repeatedly stabs Richie with the knife before shooting and murdering him. Amber, who had been horrifically burned, makes another effort to assault the group but Tara shoots her dead.
Sam thanks Sidney and Gale for their assistance as Tara and the Meeks twins are placed into ambulances and driven to the hospital. Gale chooses to write a homage to Dewey rather of reporting on the recent deaths and exposing the perpetrators. Sam joins Tara in the ambulance while a news story is written on the evening's events.
Scream VI[]
In addition to fellow survivors Chad Meeks and Mindy Meeks, their roommate Quinn Bailey, Mindy's partner Anika Kayoko, and Chad's roommate Ethan Landry, Sam and Tara now reside in New York City. Tara is a student at Blackmore University. Because of an internet hoax that claims Sam was the genuine planner of the most recent crimes, Sam is shunned in public. A Ghostface mask used in the 2011 Woodsboro killings is left behind after Ghostface assaults the sisters.
The sisters visit Quinn's detective father Wayne Bailey in the NYPD police station, along with FBI special agent Kirby Reed, a victim of the 2011 killings, and reporter Gale Weathers (who Sam attempts to punch for going back on her word and writing a book about ghostface's previous year attacks and calling Sam a born killer for her brutal slaying of Richie) but Gale dodges it but gets punched by Tara. Gale then informs the sisters that she talked to Sidney Prescott who has gone into hiding with her family to protect them. Ghostface kills Sam's therapist while stealing Sam's paperwork and leaving behind a mask used in the Hollywood crimes. Mindy hypothesizes that the murderer is adhering to the conventions of movie franchises, particularly the convention that anybody can be killed while the property is still active. When Ghostface attacks the group at the sisters' apartment, Anika is killed and Quinn appears to have also been killed. Danny Brackett, Sam's lover, assists the others in escaping, and Ghostface leaves behind a mask used in the murders at Windsor College. Gale leads the party to an abandoned theater she came upon while doing research, where it has been transformed into a shrine to the Ghostface killers, complete with several pieces of evidence from earlier homicides that have been exhibited like movie props.
Before stabbing Brooks and assaulting Gale, Ghostface contacts Gale at her apartment and torments her about Dewey Riley's death. Gale is transported to the hospital, and Sam and Tara arrive just in time to stop Ghostface from murdering Gale. To capture Ghostface, the party decides to meet Kirby at the theater. Ghostface stabs Mindy on the train. Sam experiences a hallucination of her father, the first Ghostface killer Billy Loomis, in the theater. She discovers they have been confined inside after taking his knife from the first murders. Chad is attacked by two Ghostfaces who emerge. Both Wayne and Kirby enter with their weapons drawn. Wayne makes an effort to support the theory that Kirby is the assassin, only to shoot her and expose himself as a third Ghostface and the perpetrator; his collaborators are his children, who are later identified as Ethan and a still-alive Quinn who faked her death to allay suspicion.
The three admits that they are Richie's relatives seeking to get revenge for his passing. They were behind Sam's online slander, and they want to blame her for their murderous rampage. Tara stabs Ethan, and Sam kills Quinn while momentarily knocking Wayne out cold as Sam and Tara take the initiative and defeat the Bailey family. After donning her father's Ghostface mask, Sam calls Wayne while using the voice changer to tease him before ruthlessly stabbing him to death. Ethan reappears, but Kirby kills him by smashing the television that killed Stu Macher over his head.
Tara agrees to attend treatment, and Sam agrees to give Tara greater freedom in her daily life. Sam ponders her father's Ghostface mask before tossing it aside and pursuing Tara into the city while Mindy, Chad, and Kirby are transported to the hospital.
