Maureen Prescott is the deceased mother of Sidney Prescott and Roman Bridger and the wife of Neil Prescott.
Scream (1996)[]
Maureen's death occurred one year prior to the events of Scream when Stu Macher and Billy Loomis killed her and framed her lover, Cotton Weary, for her death.
The motive behind Maureen's death was because she was having an affair with Billy Loomis's Father, Hank Loomis, which lead his mother to abandon them.
Scream 3[]
In the third film, old photos of Maureen are found at crime scenes from the murders of actors from Stab. Its revealed that in the past, Maureen moved to Los Angeles seeking to be an actress. She adopted the stage name Rina Reynolds and appeared in some John Milton productions. It is revealed that Cotton Weary came with her and got her pregnant. She eventually abandoned her baby and returned to Woodsboro.
Maureen as a ghost in Scream 3
During part of the film, Sidney is haunted by her mother's death, with visions of her in her home and voices on the phone by the killer.
In the end, it is revealed that the son Maureen abandoned, Roman Bridger, was the real Ghostface. He reveals that he approached Maureen years ago but she turned him down. Enraged, he recorded a video of Maureen's affair with Hank and showed it to Billy, which motivated him to kill her with Stu.
