Biography[]

Before Orphan: First Kill[]

Leena Klammer was born on April 20th, 1976, to unknown parents, in Tallinn, Estonia. Leena was supposedly groomed by her father from the age of two, with her mother not in the picture. As Leena got older, her father would touch her sexually, and make Leena think this was normal. However, at some point in her teenage years, her father noticed that she was not developing quickly, and so she was sent to a doctor. It was here that she was diagnosed with hypopituitarism, a disorder that causes the pituitary gland to not make enough hormones, so she will never appear older than that of a nine year old physically, with only the face slightly changing. As she got older, but didn't change, her father began to get bored of her, and ended up bringing a woman home. This made Leena furious, assuming her father didn't love her anymore, and so it was then that she committed her first murders, the double murder of her father and her fathers most-likely hookup.

After that, she escaped, and began posing as a small child in order to make money, at some point even doing prostitution. When she was nearly caught by the police, she began posing as an orphan child, would have people bring her in, and she'd rob them. However, after a risky attempt at robbing a family, she ended up killing them, and was caught. She was considered insane and was sent to an institution known as Saarne Institute, where at some point she gained a bible,

Orphan: First Kill[]

In January 2007, Estonian psychiatric patient Leena Klammer, a 31-year-old woman with a rare hormonal disorder called hypopituitarism that gives her the appearance of a 9-year-old child, orchestrates an escape from the Saarne Institute by seducing and killing a guard and hiding in the car of an art therapist named Anna. After breaking into Anna's house and killing her, Leena looks up missing American girls and finds that she bears a striking resemblance to Esther Albright, a girl from a rich family who went missing in 2003. Later, posing as a lost girl, Leena is approached by a Russian police officer and introduces herself as "Esther", claiming that her parents are in the United States.

In Darien, Connecticut, wealthy artist Allen Albright and his wife Tricia, who has since come to terms with the disappearance of their daughter, are informed by Detective Donnan that "Esther" has been found. Tricia travels to the U.S. embassy in Moscow where she is "reunited" with them. Tricia brings Esther home and immediately starts to have doubts when she notices that Esther has forgotten about the death of her grandmother or that her painting skills have increased enormously compared to before she disappeared. Leena falls in love with Allen after they both start bonding over their painting skills, and tries to separate him from Tricia.

While Tricia and Allen attend a charity gala hosted by Tricia, Donnan arrives at the house and steals a vinyl record from Esther's room which has Leena's fingerprints on it. He takes it back to his house, unaware that Leena has followed him, and analyzes the fingerprints to find it is not a match. Leena attacks Donnan and stabs him with a knife repeatedly, before Tricia arrives, having followed Leena. Instead of stopping Leena, Tricia opens fire on Donnan with a gun and kills him. Tricia reveals that she knows Leena is not Esther, who died four years earlier during an altercation with her older brother Gunnar, which Tricia covered up without Allen's knowledge. Tricia explains that she is only welcoming Leena to make Allen happy again and that if she refuses to cooperate, she would report her to the authorities for "murdering" Donnan. Leena reveals her true identity to Tricia, and the two then dispose of Donnan's body in a cellar hatch where the real Esther is buried and frame his disappearance as a vacation trip by forging an email to the police station.

Tricia eventually terminates the deal but realizing that it would be too suspicious if "Esther" were to disappear again, Tricia and Gunnar pretend that Leena is still "Esther" in Allen's presence. Later, Tricia tries to poison Leena during dinner, but Leena retaliates by feeding Tricia with a dead rat smoothie (the rat having died from eating Leena's poisoned food). She also attempts to push Tricia and Gunnar onto the railway tracks but is stopped by an incoming passenger. With Allen away at an art gallery exhibition, Leena tries fleeing by stealing Tricia's car, but she is soon found by a police officer.

That night, Leena is brought back to the Albright house and Tricia and Gunnar finally decide to kill Leena for good. Tricia tries to stage a suicide, but Leena fights back and flees before Gunnar throws her down the stairs. Distracted by a phone call from Allen, who is returning home, Tricia and Gunnar search for Leena when she disappears. Gunnar eventually finds Leena in the art room but Leena shoots Gunnar with a crossbowand then stabs him to death with his fencing sword. An enraged Tricia and Leena fight in the kitchen, inadvertently setting the house alight in the process, and the pair flee to the roof as Allen returns home.

Tricia and Leena both slip and end up clinging to the roof, begging Allen to save them, with Leena claiming Tricia attacked her, and Tricia trying to reveal the truth about Leena. Unable to save both of them, Allen chooses to help "Esther", causing Tricia to lose her grip and fall to her death. Allen then checks Leena's face, which causes her fake teeth to fall out. Realizing she is not Esther; Leena tries to defend herself by saying she did it for them and also confesses her love for him. Allen calls her a monster, causing an enraged Leena to accidentally push him off the roof. Leena then again dresses herself as Esther and leaves the burning house after cleaning off the blood on her face.

Later, "Esther" is moved to an orphanage where she waits for a new family to adopt her.

Orphan[]

The deceased daughter of Kate and John Coleman's third child, Jessica, has caused tension in their marriage. Kate is in recovery from alcoholism, so the loss of Jessica is very difficult for her. She and John make the decision to adopt Esther, a 9-year-old Russian girl from the neighborhood orphanage St. Mariana's Home for Girls. Their 12-year-old son, Daniel, is chilly to Esther while their 5-year-old deaf daughter, Max, hugs her.

John and Kate start having sexual relations one night, but Esther stops them. Esther displays significantly more sex knowledge than would be anticipated of a child her age, which makes Kate apprehensive. Then, in front of Max and Daniel, Esther acts aggressively by murdering a wounded bird and seriously hurting a student who was cruelly tormenting her. Sister Abigail, the director of the orphanage, pays a visit to the home and informs Kate and John that sad incidents and mishaps frequently occur around Esther, including the house fire that claimed the lives of her previous adoptive family. Sister Abigail is prevented from returning by Esther, who first causes her car to crash on the highway before killing her with a hammer. Max is coerced into assisting her in moving the body, and she later conceals the evidence in Daniel's treehouse. She confronts Daniel about what he saw later that evening, interrogating him angrily and threatening to castrate him if he informs Kate and John that he saw them at the treehouse.

John thinks Kate is being paranoid and tells Esther to do something pleasant for Kate as she grows more persuaded of Esther's strange behavior. Kate receives a bouquet of flowers from Esther after she rips the flowers off Jessica's grave. Kate is appalled and grabs Esther's arm firmly, saying she did this on purpose. She is upset and frustrated. Esther fractures her own arm that evening and wrongly accuses Kate, severely straining Kate and John's union. The following day, Max is inside the automobile when Esther releases the brake, sending it careening into oncoming traffic. She also mentions the alcohol she discovered in the kitchen, which prompts Kate's therapist to recommend Kate go back to rehab. If she declines, John threatens to divorce her and take the kids. Esther claims to have come from an orphanage, but Kate finds that she actually came from an Estonian mental institution, and the orphanage has no record of her.

Esther sets the treehouse on fire and makes an effort to kill Daniel when he investigates it after learning about Sister Abigail's passing from Max, but Max stops her. Esther tries to kill Daniel with a pillow as he is being treated for terrible injuries, but medical personnel are able to save his life. Before Esther is restrained and sedated, an outraged Kate slaps her. That evening, Esther dresses provocatively and makes an attempt to entice John, who, recognizing Kate had been accurate about Esther's conduct, threatens to send Esther back to the orphanage.

Dr. Värava of the Saarne Institute contacts Kate in the hospital and informs her that Esther is actually Leena Klammer, 33, an Estonian-born woman. She has spent the majority of her life pretending to be a little girl due to hypopituitarism, a rare hormonal disease that delayed her physical growth and resulted in proportional dwarfism. Leena is a violent person who has killed at least seven people, including the most recent adoptive family. Leena takes off the ribbons around her neck and wrists that were covering scars from her attempts to escape straitjackets while she was a patient at the institution after failing to seduce her adoptive father. After taking off her disguise, Leena kills John with a knife. Leena tries to shoot Kate as she runs home, hurting her arm. After Leena starts shooting at Max, Kate climbs through the roof and takes out Esther.

Death[]

Leena Death

Leena's death.

Leena attacks Kate at the frozen pond, forcing Kate and Max to fall onto the ice as the police arrive. Leena and Kate are submerged as a result of Max's attempt to shoot Leena but failure to break the ice. Leena clings to Kate's legs as she climbs out. Leena begs Kate to save her, but Kate kicks Leena in the face and breaks her neck. While Kate and Max are being greeted by police, Leena's body sinks into the pond.

The Golden Chainsaw

James gave her the Golden Chainsaw because it was wild to see a grown woman kick a little girl in the face.
