Laney Rucker is a major character in The Purge: Election Year. She is portrayed by Betty Gabriel.

Biography[]

In the first scene Laney is introduced in the film, she is portrayed as being sentimental with Joe Dixon, a storeowner, and Marcos Dali, who is an employee.

In another scene it is revealed that Laney is a well-known character from having Purged as a teenager, being describe as 'Pequeña Muerte' by a girl shoplifting the store, who derides her for having since become a Purge nurse: seeing to the wounded on Purge night. When the store is being attacked by the same girl and her friends on Purge night, Laney proceeds to shoot and kill them all at point-blank range, with the situation being concluded with Laney saying, "Pequeña Muerte is back."

Laney further contributes by assisting in the group (consisting of her, Joe, Marcos, Leo Barnes and Charlie Roan) in traveling to where they need to go (as she is the one with the van) and being a helpful by being an extra shooter. After Joe is shot by a rampaging priest who is attempting to assassinate the Senator, Laney comforts him as he dies, promising to look after his store.
