The Dead Meat Wiki

Kathleen Wright is a supporting antagonist in Thanksgiving. She was the greedy stepmother of Jessica Wright who inadvertedly contributed to the 2022 RightMart Massacre by convincing the owner, her husband Thomas, to open the store on the evening of Thanksgiving.

She was played by Karen Cliche, who also played Shelby in Saw VI.

Biography[]

Kathleen was the second wife of Thomas Wright, owner of the RightMart superstore, and the stepmother of Jessica Wright. The family lived together in Plymouth, Massachusetts. Thomas married Kathleen after his first wife passed away, but Jessica grew to despise Kathleen and her greedy ways.

In 2022, Kathleen convinced Thomas to open RightMart early on the evening of Thanksgiving rather than on Black Friday so that she and the family could earn more money from the sale. This wound up being a fatal mistake, as it resulted in a violent stampede of customers which claimed multiple lives, including that of Amanda Collins, the wife of RightMart's manager Mitch. The night after the incident, Kathleen, anxious about the possibility of facing lawsuits or bad publicity, went into RightMart's security room and deleted all the footage of the incident. Jessica witnessed this, but Kathleen convinced her not to say anything before she could stop her.

The next year, as RightMart prepares for its next Black Friday sale, a mysterious killer dressed as John Carver begins murdering various residents of Plymouth who were involved in the previous year's riot. After Jessica's friend Yulia becomes the latest victim of John Carver, Thomas decides to close RightMart for Thanksgiving, despite Kathleen's objections. Jessica and the police then get the idea to have the Wright family participate in the Thanksgiving parade so that Carver may be lured out into the open and then dealt with by authorities.

The next day, the parade begins, and Jessica, Kathleen, Thomas and Jessica's friend Scuba dress as pilgrims and stand atop the RightMart float to act as bait for the killer. However, Carver outsmarts them and changes into a clown costume. He publicly decapitates a mascot and activates several smoke grenades, resulting in a panic that forces Scuba and the Wright family to flee into a police car. However, Carver knocks out the officer with a tranquilizer gun, before doing the same with Jessica and the others.

Kathleen wakes up in the middle of a circle of chopped vegetables in the kitchen of the old Carver house, where Carver is preparing food right next to her. She pretends to be unconscious as Carver smears her body with melted butter and seasons her before he leaves to preheat a large oven. Kathleen attempts to make an escape and hides from Carver when he returns, discovering Lionel's body and Amy inside a plastic bag in the fridge, and promising to get help for the latter when she finds that she is still alive. However, Carver throws a pitchfork into her back when she tries to run out the front door, and Kathleen gets dragged back inside, tied up and placed into the oven. After turning on the oven and cooking her for a few seconds, Carver opens the oven and stabs a food thermometer into Kathleen's arm before closing it again, and Kathleen ultimately dies by being cooked alive. Later, her body is decapitated and served as a makeshift "turkey" for Thomas, Jessica and Jessica's friends. James gave her death the Golden Chainsaw because it was horrifying to watch, it had a great chase scene leading into it, and because it did the original turkey death from the Grindhouse trailer justice. Her death was also nominated for "Best Kill" at the Dead Meat Horror Awards 2024.
