Ethan is the main antagonist of Pilgrim. He is played by Peter Giles.
Biography[]
Ethan was a historical re-enactor who was working with Patience. They were both hired by Anna to produce an authentic first Thanksgiving for her family and friends.
They arrive at the house unexpectedly early, during a company meeting Anna is holding with some friends and co-workers at her home. Anna reveals that she has specifically hired Ethan for her family, whilst Patience was hired by Anna for her friend Katherine. Anna also reveals that Ethan will be staying in the house with the family for a few days, much to Cody's objection.
Later that night, Ethan privately thanks Cody for hiring him, saying that he has been facing a difficult point in his life ever since he lost his family, and has been wanting to get other people to be thankful for their own families ever since. The next morning, Ethan begins remodelling the family home to be more appropriate for the historical "setting"; replacing the light bulbs with candles and building a shed in the backyard. Anna goes along with Ethan's vision, and confiscates Cody's phone and laptop to better fit the setting.
Later on, Cody discovers that Ethan has brought in various other pilgrims into the house. Anna then brings Cody away, and tells her that Finn and Katherine have disappeared, meaning that Patience will be moving in with them as well. Suspicious, Cody travels to Finn's house to look for him, only to find him dead with his throat slit, following which she flees in horror. Meanwhile, Anna gets too uncomfortable with all the pilgrims around the house, and, since she is unable to find Tate (since he had been playing hide-and-seek), she asks her husband Shane for help. After she convinces him to pry himself from his computer, however, both parents are cornered by Ethan and Patience, and are both locked inside wooden pillories. Ethan chastises Shane for being more focused on his work than his family, and gets another pilgrim to begin whipping Shane with a firepoker as punishment. Patience also scolds Anna with the firepoker as punishment for her being too focused on her family image.
Cody arrives back home later that evening, and, after finding Shane and Anna, releases them from the pillories. One pilgrim sees this and attacks Shane, but the family overpowers him and beat the pilgrim to death. The family agree to go back inside to save Tate, and split up so they can access different windows as a means of getting inside. Cody is caught and abducted, however, whilst Shane is killed after being spotted.
After Ethan and Patience force Anna and Cody to help prepare Thanksgiving Dinner, the main course is served, which is revealed to be Shane's severed head and ribcage, much to the horror of Anna and Cody. Both ladies are forced to eat Shane's body as dinner progresses, but eventually, the pilgrims all start becoming violently ill, and Cody reveals that she slipped poisonous Jerusalem cherries into the berry mix. The poison berries cause almost all of the pilgrims to die, except for Ethan and Patience, who both force themselves to puke in order to save themselves.
Death[]
As Patience and Ethan pass out, Tate emerges from the closet he was hiding in, and unties the restraints of both Cody and Anna. As Cody goes to finish Ethan off, Anna is attacked by Patience, but Anna overpowers and kills her easily. Meanwhile, a weakened Ethan is cornered by Cody and Anna, whom burn him with the firepoker as demand for answers on why he did this to them. Ethan simply laughs and replies with "Isn't this what you wished for?" before Cody kills him by swinging an axe into his head. As Ethan dies, Cody sees that he was holding her half of the wishbone she and Tate had broken.
