Dylan's New Nightmare (2023) KILL COUNT is the four hundred and first video of The Kill Count.

Overview[]

About 25 years after the events of Wes Craven's New Nightmare, Dylan Porter is now an adult who, following in his mother's footsteps, is trying to make it as an actor in Hollywood. He has a nightmare of a casting audition in the opening scene, where he is reading for a role in the fictitious fifth installment in the Hatchet franchise, only for the casting director to begin laughing at him before his assistants abruptly commit suicide. The casting director then transforms into Freddy Krueger, whom torments and attacks Dylan before he wakes up from his nightmare.

Dylan has a session with his long-time therapist, Dr. Sarah Silbe, in which he reluctantly discusses the dream with her. Dr. Silbe believes that Dylan's nightmares are the result of possible trauma he has, both from being exposed to the Nightmare on Elm Street movies at a young age and from how his mother Heather Langenkamp was admitted to a psych ward shortly after the events of WCNN. After returning home, Dylan tries to make contact with his mother by calling the psych ward, only to be told she is not available. Dylan also notices slash marks in his shirt from when he was attacked in his nightmare.

That night, after Dylan goes to sleep, the entity from WCNN emerges from his bed into the real world, before breaking into Dr. Sible's home and murdering her. The next morning, Dylan wakes up to find Dr. Sible's bloody pen on his nightstand, and also finds his old plush dinosaur, Rex, before his phone rings. He answers it to find that it is his mother calling him, and cries in relief.
