Dean Russell is a minor character in the 2010 remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street, and the first kill victim. Dean is played by Kellan Lutz, who film debut in Stick It (2006), and horror credits include 2008 Prom Night remake.
Biography[]
Dean has been experiencing sleep deprivation and strange nightmares about an unknown man after exploring childhood memories with his psychiatrist. Since then, he struggles to stay awake and dependent of caffeine, and thus haven't been slept over 72 hours, resulting him become hypnagogic and begins to dream lucidly and to hallucinate.
While at the diner with Nancy and Kris, Dean fell asleep and encountered Freddy in the kitchen who proceeded to slash his hand. Nancy woke him, telling him if he keeps falling asleep they will kick him out of the diner. He met his girlfriend Kris at the diner and told her about his nightmares and lack of sleep. When he accidentally spilled coffee on her, she went to the restroom

He was killed by Freddy Krueger, in his dream, by slitting his throat with knife that Dean tried to use to defend himself.

James gave this death "The Golden Chainsaw" award because of how deep the actual cut was and it made him squeamish.
