Corporal Mitchell is the secondary antagonist of 28 Days Later. He is played by Ricci Harnett.
Biography[]
Mitchell was a British soldier under the command of Major Henry West. During the initiall outbreak of the Rage Virus, Mitchell and the rest of West's men were tasked with defending the city of Manchester from the infected. However, they were eventually overwhelmed, and almost all the soldiers were either killed or infected, save for West, Mitchell, and seven other soldiers. Mitchell, West and the rest of the men decided to flee and take refuge in the fictional mansion of Worsley House, which they fortified against attack with mines, tripwires, barbed wire and barricades.
23 days after the infection broke out, however, West found one of his men, Private Jones, contemplating suicide via pointing his gun in his mouth. Upon West asking what was wrong, Jones declared that there was 'no future' for society, and thus no point in them trying to barricade themselves from the infected. In response, West promised Jones and the rest of his men that they would use any female survivors they found to 'repopulate the country' via sexual slavery. Six days later, another of West's soldiers, Private Mailer, was infected, but Mitchell managed to knock him unconscious before he could attack anyone. The soldiers then decided to keep Mailer alive, but chain him up in the courtyard of the mansion for research purposes.
Two days later, four surviors -- Jim, Selena, Frank and Hannah -- make it to the blockade, but Frank is infected by a falling drop of blood, and the soldiers are quickly forced to shoot him down. The remaining three survivors are transferred over to the mansion, where West takes them in. During dinner that night, however, Mitchell mocks another soldier, Private Bell, for believing that things will eventually be resolved. Suddenly, a herd of infected start bolting towards the mansion, but Mitchell and the rest of the soldiers are able to fend them off. Afterwards, however, Mitchell makes fun of Selena and attempts to sexually assault her, but Jim and another (more good-natured) soldier named Sergeant Farrell intervene, causing a fight to break out. West takes Jim aside and reveals his motivations, whilst Farrell is beaten down by Mitchell and the rest of the soldiers.
The next morning, Mitchell and Jones take Jim and Farrell out into the woods to prepare to execute them. However, Jones becomes disturbed after Mitchell states his desires to give the two men slow, painful deaths via bayonet, and instead gives Farrell a simplier, less-painful death via shooting him in the hip. Outraged, Mitchell attacks Jones and threatens to stab him in the face, but Jim manages to escape during their arguement. Despite Jones's concerns, Mitchell is indifferent, believing that Jim is as good as dead.
Death[]

Mitchell's death.
Jim manages to make his way back to Worsley House, and releases the infected Private Mailer from his restraints. Mailer quickly gets to slaughtering and/or infecting the other soldiers. Upon witnessing the chaos unfolding, Mitchell sends Private Bedford to deal with Mailer, whilst he grabs Selena and forcefully drags her into an upstairs bedroom. Suddenly, Jim jumps down through the ceiling, catching Mitchell off-guard. Jim proceeds to bash Mitchell's head against a wall, then finishes him off by gouging his eyes out.
