Chris Godecki is the deuteragonist of Black Friday.
Biography[]
During Thanksgiving night, Chris works the night shift with his best friend, Ken Bates. Both of them have worked at We Love Toys for years. While the staff prepares to open for Black Friday, Chris overhears on the news that residents are catching a flu due to meteor showers around the area. Chris's co-worker, Bircher isn't fazed about the news and switches the channel to a playing of Curse of Chucky.
Assistant manager, Brian calls all employees to the front where their boss, Jonathan Wexler tells them about the day. How they won't get paid while taking a break. All hell breaks loose when the doors open and customers fight over toys. An angry old woman tries to check out but after Chris takes a while, she becomes impatient with him. Brain shows up and tells the germophobic Chris to clean up a mess in an aisle. Chris sees an infected customer before being attacked by another infected customer. Chris defends himself by knocking things onto the hostile customers.
This gets Chris a citizen's arrest, in which they zip-tie him to a chair. We Love Toys closes for the night due to Chris's behavior. Ken and Emmett play with the leftover toys however, Emmett gets attacked by an infected customer. Ken gets the customer off of Emmett and rushes him to the back where he succumbs to his injuries and infects a coworker, Anita. Chris gets untied while Brain calls a neighboring store. The receptionist at the other store tells Brian that they have the same issue, infected shoppers.
The employees-Chris, Ken, Brian, Jonathan, Marnie, Archie, and Ruth gather up and prepare to fight the infected. The group splits up in two while Chris, Archie, and Brian close the employee exit and Ken, Jonathan, Marnie, and Ruth watch the security cameras. Chris, Archie, an Brian sneakily make their way to the exit but Brian makes a loud noise, causing the infected to run at them. A defenseless Chris almost gets attacked by a shopper but Archie kills the shopper and other infected folks. After this close encounter, the three successfully close the side door. However, while watching the cameras, Marnie notices that a bunch of the infected shoppers are gathering up at a specific part of the store. She goes to check it out and witnesses multiple infected shoppers merge themselves into a giant parasite.
When the group of employees gather up, Marnie shares her story to them. Ken is fed up with the night and tries to leave with his holiday bonus only to discover that there is none. Jonathan tells his employees that this year, they won't be given bonuses. Ruth breaks the argument when she gets run over by an infected cop. The employees scatter around the store and Chris once again gets saved by Archie. Unfortunately, while saving Chris, Archie is bitten in the arm. Archie realizes his inevitable fate and buys Chris some time by killing a few more shoppers before being killed himself. On his way to the back, Chris is ambushed by the infected Emmett but is able to avoid him. As soon as the infected Emmett enters the back, Marnie beats him repeatedly with a wrench.
The lights go out so with nothing better to do, the employees gather in a circle and tell their stories to each other. Marnie gets some ham from a refrigerator and shares it with everyone. During this moment, Chris and Ken get into an argument where they tell each other wasted potential and try to act cool. To insult Ken even more, Chris brings up his and Marnie's relationship. Marnie tells Ken that she only makes out with Ken to pass the time. Trying to change the subject, Ken tries to look for another way out of We Love Toys and finds a truck belonging to an infected shopper, Lou. However, they are interrupted by the infected Emmett. Annoyed with him, Ken and Brian team up to finally kill Emmett. Ken notices that he has a bite mark as a result of killing Emmett, meaning he will soon become infected. The group tries to find a solution but Ken decides to stay behind with a malfunctioning toy, Dour Dennis. After saying goodbye to Ken, Chris and the other employees head to Lou's truck still outside.
Now inside of Lou's truck, Chris finds an exit in the roof hatch. Chris sees the infected Bircher but after a short period of time, he leaves, only to return with multiple mire infected shoppers. Chris runs back to the truck and tells the rest of the group that they need to find another way out. They leave the truck since it won't start and notice a fire caused by Dour Dennis. To escape the fire, the employees go to the roof. However, they notice that the roof patch is blocked by infected shoppers. Jonathan decides to sacrifice himself in order to buy the others some time so with a final speech, Jonathan dives inside of the patch and is killed. With Jonathan gone, Brian tells Chris and Marnie that he had bitten Ken's arm to make it seem that the infected Emmett bit him. Marnie and Brian get into an argument which causes them to fall off the roof and into a dumpster. At first Chris is hesitant to jump but after the size of the parasite has grown rapidly, he jumps off the building.
Chris, Marnie, and Brian go to the front of the store and witness the parasite reaching its max form. Brian steps up and tries to talk to the customers inside the parasite-kaiju, only to be killed right away. Ken manages to escape the burning building and reunites with Chris and Marnie. Chris comes up with a plan to kill the parasite and shares it with Ken. As Ken and Marnie distract the parasite, Chris makes his way to a forklift. Chris finds a forklift who's driver is already dead. Chris starts the forklift and makes his way to the parasite. The parasite sees Chris and grabs the forklift with its tongue. Chris puts the forklift on reverse and jumps out, causing the parasite to stab itself. The parasite is defeated shortly after for the injuries. Chris, Ken, and Marnie get inside of Ken's car and leave the parking lot as other parasite-kaiju's watch from a distance.
