Brandon Breyer is the main antagonist of Brightburn. He is played by Jackson A. Dunn.
Biography[]
Brandon is a young boy of extraterrestrial origin, who had crash landed in Brightburn, Kansas when he was an infant back in 2006. He was quickly found and adopted by Tori and Kyle Breyer and named Brandon.
12 years later in 2018, Brandon still lived with his adopted parents, and got along well with them. He was also shown to be an extra smart kid at school. One night, however, whilst Brandon is sleeping, Brandon has an alien message transmitted to him, leading him to the barn. There, he tries to open the locked cellar whilst seemingly in a trance, but Tori intervenes, snapping Brandon out of it, and causing him to begin to freak out over having no idea how he got there.
Following the incident, Brandon begins to discover that he has superpowers; somehow accidently tossing a lawnmower high across a field, managing to stop and dent the lawnmower's blade with only one hand without getting a scratch, and bending silverware whilst eating breakfast. He also starts to display mood swings, and other weird behaviour.
Over time, his tendancies grow more and more deplorable, with him slaughtering the family's chickens, spying on his crush Caitlyn from behind her bedroom curtains (using his ultra-fast speed to quickly make an escape when noticed), and, after Caitlyn lets Brandon fall during a trust excersice (to get back at him for spying on her), he gets mad at her and crushes her hand. The latter incident causes Brandon to be suspended, and he gets further infuriated when he overhears Caitlyn's mother Erica calling him out for being adopted, giving her an angry look when leaving.
That night, Brandon is once again drawn to the ship and successfully breaks into the barn where it is hidden. Tori follows and sees him levitating above the open trapdoor. As she rushes up to him, he falls through the trapdoor, where he discovers the spaceship that he came to Earth in. Tori reveals to Brandon that he did indeed come from space, and despite being reassuring to him, Brandon is still enraged over being lied to his whole life, and storms off.
Whilst leaving the house, Brandon continues to verbally repeat the spaceship's message, and is able to decipher it as being "Take the world" before developing heat vision. He then dons a make-shift superhero costume in the form of a cape and red hood, and uses his new powers to kill Erica at the diner where she works. He also murders his uncle Noah McNichol by lifting his vehcile up and crashing it. Tori and Kyle are informed of Noah's death, but when they relay that information to Brandon, he displays no reaction. Kyle gets furious, and openly accuses Brandon of murder, and when he grabs him, Brandon retaliates by violently shoving him into a wall. Kyle finds Brandon's blood-stained shirt and shows it to Tori, but she refuses to believe it.
The next morning, Kyle decides to take Brandon on a father-son hunting trip in the woods (because, as he tells Tori, he wants to show that he still loves him). A sheriff arrives at the Breyers' and ask to see Brandon. Tori tells the sheriff that Kyle and Brandon aren't home, so he shows Tori a symbol of runic Bs found at the scenes of Erica's and Noah's deaths. Tori finds Brandon's notebook filled with drawings of the symbol, as well as of his murders and his message to "take the world", and Tori thus finally begins to believe Kyle (a bit too fuckin' late there, lady...). Tori tries calling Kyle, but since Kyle has already been killed following an unsuccessful attempt to kill Brandon during the hunting trip, Brandon answers instead and implies he is now coming for Tori.
Brandon returns and begins destroying the house, easily killing a pair of cops who come to the rescue. Remembering that the ship can injure Brandon, Tori runs to the barn and discovers Erica's mutilated body. As Brandon pursues her, Tori tries to talk down-to-earth to him about how much she loves him, appearing to share a genuine moment of compassion for each other. However, Tori then tries to stab him with a piece of the ship, which Brandon sees coming. Angered and heartbroken, Brandon flies Tori miles into the sky above the clouds and drops her to her death, just as an airplane approaches. The next day, we learn the airplane has mysteriously crashed into the farmhouse, with the news reporting that everyone on board was killed and that Brandon was the only survivor.
During the credits, Brandon begins his worldwide attacks, which news reports cover. Brandon is also dubbed "Brightburn" by the media.
