Axel Palmer is the primary antagonist of My Bloody Valentine. He is one of the workers at the Hanniger Mine and the secret killer responsible for the string of brutal murders terrorizing the town of Valentine Bluffs.
Biography[]
When Axel was a child, he witnessed his father being murdered by Harry Warden—his father was one of the negligent supervisors responsible for the mining disaster.
Many years later, Axel is one of the young miners working in the town’s coal mine. He and a few friends are preparing for the first Valentine’s Day dance in twenty years, an event that was previously banned due to the mining disaster and Harry Warden's murderous spree. He is romantically involved with Sarah, the ex-girlfriend of his co-worker, T.J. Hanniger, whom he has an ongoing rivalry in a love triangle situation.
Throughout the night, a mysterious killer in mining gear begins murdering townspeople, targeting those connected to the Valentine’s Day dance. Everybody assumed it was Harry Warden killing again for revenger, but it is instead Axel who has been committing the murders all along, taking on Warden’s identity after being traumatised by witnessing his father's death. Axel is pursued by T.J. and Sarah into the depths of the mine. During the fight, a tunnel collapses, trapping Axel under the rubble. When the authorities arrive, they begin clearing the debris, only to discover that Axel has survived and severed his own trapped arm to escape. Completely unhinged, he limps deeper into the mine, laughing maniacally and muttering about Harry Warden and asking Sarah to be his "bloody valentine".
